DUTCH TEST
What is DUTCH TEST?
The
DUTCH Test
, which stands for
Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones,
is a diagnostic tool that measures hormones and hormone metabolites in a dried urine sample.
It’s designed to provide a complete picture of a person’s hormonal health over a specific period, ranging from a few days to several weeks.
The test is particularly useful for assessing reproductive and stress hormones, and it can be conveniently performed at home.
It’s a valuable resource for healthcare practitioners to evaluate various hormonal imbalances and guide treatment decisions.
DUTCH Testing Panels
The
DUTCH Test
offers three primary panels to assess hormone levels:
DUTCH Complete™
: Provides a comprehensive assessment of sex hormone metabolites (progesterone, oestrogens, and androgens), adrenal hormone metabolites (cortisol, cortisone, creatinine, and DHEA-S), organic acids, 8-OHdG, and melatonin metabolites. It also includes neuro-markers and gut-health indicators.
DUTCH Plus®
:Includes all biomarkers from the DUTCH Complete and adds the cortisol awakening response (CAR). The CAR assessment evaluates the HPA axis using salivary samples collected immediately after waking and throughout the day.
DUTCH Cycle Mapping™
: Analyses progesterone and oestrogen patterns throughout the menstrual cycle. Useful for addressing month-long symptoms, fertility concerns, and issues related to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). These panels help identify hormonal imbalances and guide treatment decisions.
When to Use the DUTCH Test
The DUTCH test is commonly used to help diagnose and manage a variety of conditions related to hormonal imbalances.
Here are some common use cases:
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
and
Amenorrhea
(loss of period): To understand the hormonal fluctuations that may contribute to these conditions.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
: To assess androgen levels and their metabolites, which are often elevated in PCOS.
Hypothyroidism
: Since thyroid function can affect hormone balance, the DUTCH test can be part of a comprehensive evaluation.
Metabolic Dysfunction
and
Blood Sugar Imbalances
: Hormones like cortisol can influence metabolic processes and glucose regulation.
Gastrointestinal Issues
such as
IBS
and
Constipation
: Hormones can affect gut motility and function.
Autoimmune Diseases
and
Inflammation
: Hormonal imbalances may exacerbate these conditions.
Chronic Infections
: Hormone levels can impact the body’s immune response.
The DUTCH test provides insights into how cortisol levels and other hormones may be affecting these health conditions and symptoms, offering a clearer picture of hormonal health.
Sample Collection
Collecting a urine sample for the DUTCH test involves the following steps:
Complete Information
: Fill out all necessary information on each collection device before starting.
Saturate Filter Paper
: Urinate directly onto the filter paper to saturate it, or use a clean cup and dip the filter paper into the urine for full saturation.
Dry the Sample
: Leave the collection device open to dry for at least 24 hours in a safe and undisturbed area.
Close and Return:
Once the filter paper is completely dry, close each collection device, place them in the resealable plastic bag provided, and return them in the envelope supplied with your kit.
Remember to avoid touching the filter paper with your fingers and follow any specific instructions regarding the timing of sample collection related to your wake/sleep cycle. For more detailed instructions or assistance, you can refer to the resources provided with your DUTCH test kit.
If you are interested in DUTCH testing, I invite you to book a 15 minute complementary session to see if it's the right test for you.
